Customers seeking stylish, modest evening gowns often found themselves disappointed with the limited options available, which usually required alterations or compromises in quality. Recognizing this gap, Iyza Belaar launched a luxury product line featuring beaded and sequined dresses priced around $800, designed to offer couture-level aesthetics with full coverage. I took the lead on designing these pieces, creating initial sketches in Photoshop and working closely with manufacturers to perfect samples and maintain high standards. To meet the unexpectedly high demand, we adjusted our approach by setting delivery times to 2-3 weeks and personally coordinating with customers based on their event dates to ensure timely fulfillment.

Navigating challenges like finding the right manufacturing partners wasn’t easy, but by building strong relationships and focusing on quality control, we overcame setbacks to deliver on our brand promise. Our efforts paid off, as our first two designs sold out within a week of launching online, quickly positioning Iyza Belaar as a go-to brand for luxury modest fashion. We were able to not only meet but exceed the expectations of a previously underserved market, providing elegant and reliable options that resonated deeply with our customers.

Problem: Addressing the Gap in Modest Dresses

Customers looking for long-sleeve, modest evening gowns often struggled to find options that met their cultural and religious needs. This particular customer required their arms and neckline to be covered.

They wanted the luxury of couture dresses priced under $1,000, but the market frequently fell short. Many designers overlooked these specific requirements, forcing customers to alter dresses by adding sleeves or raising necklines, which often compromised the garment’s overall fit and design. On the other hand, the limited modest options available sometimes led to the awkward situation of arriving at an event in the same dress as someone else. Although modest dresses were manufactured in China, the quality—particularly for beaded gowns—often failed to meet the expectations of discerning customers, leaving them frustrated and dissatisfied with their choices.

My Solution: Developing a Unique Product Line

Recognizing this gap in the market, Iyza Belaar aimed to fill it by developing a luxury product line that specifically catered to these needs. Our approach centered on creating high-quality, beautifully designed dresses that combined modesty with style. Most designs featured intricate beading, sequins, and full coverage, offering a blend of luxury and cultural sensitivity that was previously lacking.

By pricing most styles around $800, we were able to deliver couture-level aesthetics at a more accessible price point, all while maintaining a strong focus on quality and design integrity.

To kickstart Iyza Belaar’s product line, we launched with two initial designs, both of which sold out within the first week of being posted online. This immediate success quickly revealed an inventory challenge—we struggled to keep items in stock. To manage this, we adjusted our shipping strategy by setting delivery expectations to 2-3 weeks.

We also took a personalized approach to customer service by calling customers to discuss their event dates, prioritizing orders based on their wear dates. This strategy helped us maximize sales opportunities without disappointing our clients.
